The level design of “Black Myth: Wukong” is quite complex, with various hidden surprises scattered throughout the map that can easily be missed if you’re not careful. Here, I will create a comprehensive exploration guide for “Black Myth: Wukong,” detailing the hidden NPC side quests, hidden levels, hidden bosses, important collectibles, and more, in conjunction with the main storyline to provide a route planning explanation. I will do my best to guide you through everything, minimizing detours and ensuring a complete narrative experience.
(This article has been streamlined as much as possible, reducing plot descriptions to minimize spoilers. However, it is difficult to avoid some spoilers when mentioning BOSS names and character names. It is recommended that you do not read the following content until you have encountered them in the game.)
Entering Shamen Village from the small bridge next to the land temple, I found the main gate locked. On the roof above the door, there was a group of archers, and I couldn’t get up there to fight them from this side, so I decided to ignore it for now.
Go to the high place on the left side of the door to get a treasure chest, then explore the Sandman Village on the right side of the door. Later, you can go around to the back of the door from the other side and eliminate these archers.
Walk to the right, there is a treasure chest in the small pavilion, enter Shamen Village from the path on the right.
Shamen Village Map:
After entering Shamen Village, the door on the right is the exit door. Don’t open it yet, as opening the door will immediately trigger a cutscene.
On the table in front of the Buddha statue, there is a 【brewing item】 Soro Qiong bud. (There is a two-headed rat here; it’s recommended to kill it first.)
First, explore the left side, and after exploring the entire village, come back to open the exit door.
Walk up the mountain, and take a treasure chest from the small house.
Then, after coming down the mountain, I shot arrows at the archers on the roof while walking all the way to the left, arriving at a large courtyard.
After defeating the earth wolf in the yard, I obtained the 【Essence】 of the earth wolf. I picked the lotus root from the pond and got the 【Brew Item】 tender lotus root, which should be a random drop. If you didn’t get it, that’s okay; you can also gather lotus roots elsewhere.

There is a pavilion in the yard, and you encounter Brother Ma there again. He is tied up but won’t let you rescue him, and you can have repeated conversations with him until they start to repeat.
From this side, you can open the village gate, and a group of archers is outside. After defeating them, you will receive the 【Essence】 Crossbowman.
On the way to the courtyard just now, I walked a bit higher and found someone hiding in the house talking. I went over and had repeated conversations with them, learning that the third prince is in the Western Heaven’s Buddhist Kingdom. Here, I need to first kill the two-headed rat in the nearby village (on the way I just came) before I can continue the conversation to the end and hear the news about the third prince in the Western Heaven’s Buddhist Kingdom.
After exploring the village, go to the exit door and defeat Sand Erlang and Sand King.
If you prioritize killing Sha Erlang first, the battle will be easier, and the Sand King will flee, leading to more exciting storylines with the Sand King. If you prioritize killing the Sand King first, Sha Erlang will go berserk and be harder to defeat, but you’ll obtain the 【Essence】 Sha Erlang after the fight. However, there will be no further storylines with the Sand King, and you’ll only be able to summon Sha Dalang using a piece of meat.
I personally think that the essence isn’t just about this one, and experiencing the entire storyline is better, so I first fought Sha Erlang. If you care about the achievement of having all essences, then fight Sha Guowang first.
