In addition to the main storyline of “Black Myth: Wukong,” there are many Easter egg plots and references related to the original work. Players who want to understand this content, please refer to the “pikusan” compilation of plot points and Easter eggs for “Black Myth: Wukong.” I hope it can help everyone.
The maximum level of the game character is level 342, corresponding to the original text in “Journey to the West” where Sun Wukong checks the Book of Life and Death (Chapter 3 of “Journey to the West”): “Wukong personally reviewed it, and only at the soul number one thousand three hundred and fifty was Sun Wukong’s name noted, born of a heavenly stone monkey, destined to live three hundred and forty-two years, and to die a natural death.”
The maximum number of Spirit Points that can be obtained in the game is 365, which is exactly enough to fully unlock all skills (including 10 transformations and the hidden skill from the second playthrough – Life-Saving Hair). The highest damage in the game is 108,000, corresponding to the Somersault Cloud given by Patriarch Bodhi in “Journey to the West,” where one somersault covers 108,000 miles (Chapter 2 of “Journey to the West”): “The Patriarch then taught a mantra: ‘This cloud, twist the formula, recite the incantation, clench your fist tightly, shake your body, and jump up; with one somersault, you can travel 108,000 miles!'”
The Shadow God Map serves as the background introduction to the game’s story, but its writing style is reminiscent of Rashomon, where different characters have varying interpretations of the same event. To uncover the true narrative, one must piece together multiple Shadow God Maps, some of which contain temporal clues. Only by stitching together various Shadow God Maps can the complete story be revealed.
The wolf school guard and the wolf swordsman were flattering the black bear spirit, who then flattered the dragon girl and Shan Cai (the red boy): “When Shan Cai snatched it away and took a look, it was a honey-fried candy, crystal clear and transparent, shaped like a lion fairy candy.” (He laughed, flattering so much that he ended up flattering the horse’s leg), when the upper beam is not straight, the lower beam is crooked.
5. (Wolf Assassin Shadow God Map) The little wolf learned from the great gray wolf. The great gray wolf said that the little wolf was reluctant to kill, which caused more suffering to the prey. (Wolf Guardian Shadow God Map) “In the past, there was a little wolf who followed the great gray wolf to learn hunting. The master taught him that an excellent hunter strikes decisively and never lets the prey suffer. After much contemplation and years of practice, the little wolf mastered a technique of slaughter. He thought his master would be pleased with his progress, but the master reproached him for causing harm to living beings and urged him to repent. The master’s contradictory words left the wolf demon confused, so he left Black Wind Mountain and wandered the world.” Huang Mei told him that the law of the jungle is survival of the fittest, what crime is there in that? “Upon hearing this, the wolf demon suddenly understood and resolved to join the Little Thunder Sound Temple to pursue the path of ultimate bliss.”
6. Many are guarding the thieves, ordinary people control the monsters while also doing the work of exorcising them, such as the Shadow God Diagram of the Snake Patrol, where snake catchers raise snake demons themselves. The Shadow God Diagram of the Little Lingzhi Spirit is particularly chilling upon closer thought.
7. The Shadow God Map of Guangzhi and Guangmou, both are little demons, disguising as monks under Elder Jinch’s command. King Guangzhi is the old Lingxuzi, and King Guangmou is the White Flower Snake Spirit. (Guangzhi! Save me!) (Black Myth: Guangzhi)
8. The Toad Immortal travels in all directions. Waves here, waves there, waves upon waves, waves within waves, wave wave wave, wave wave wave (What wave is this? What wave is that?). Six chapters, six toads, the Toad Immortal is also from Journey to the West. This storyline is very interesting, everyone can take a look, I call it the Toad Immortal’s side story.
9. The Demon King Ling Xuzi and the character Old Ling Xuzi; the Demon King Ling Xuzi is the boss we fight, originally a refugee from the Lion Camel Country, while Old Ling Xuzi is the character from Journey to the West who was also killed by Sun Wukong. After the Black Bear Spirit obtained the Great Sage’s root artifact, Old Ling Xuzi was resurrected, but he was unwilling to drink blood to survive (as can be seen from the image of the white-clothed scholar), choosing instead to hang himself. His corpse should be the one in front of the third bell; after defeating the illusion, it can be interacted with, and then the corpse disappears, indicating that it has been transcended.
10. Elder Jin Chi: Gaza, my Gaza (not). He was also resurrected by the Black Bear Spirit, and the ghostly doll at the beginning is his essence after the failed resurrection by the Black Wind King (a tribute to the legendary Sun Wukong’s skill, Kamehameha). “In his frustration, he cast a spell to try to revive the old monk with whom he once discussed Zen. Unexpectedly, the old monk’s soul did not return to the assembled corpse, but instead transformed into a confused spirit from the gold, silver, and copper coins he had buried long ago, wandering around and disturbing the mountain area, never at peace.”
11. The Black Bear Spirit was summoned by the Bodhisattva to help fight the Great Sage. At first, the Black Bear Spirit didn’t want to go: “Me, fight the Great Sage Equal to Heaven? Is this for real?” The Bodhisattva said, “You go.” The Dragon Lady replied, “How could we not know? Don’t worry, there are fiercer and tougher ones charging ahead.” In exchange, the Black Bear Spirit removed the headband and then returned to be the Black Wind King. The Black Bear Spirit is truly the cutest among all the demon kings; he talks the fiercest before the fight and kneels the fastest afterward (Hey, Red Boy, can you learn something from your buddies?). After we defeated him, calling us “Little Sage” really made us laugh. The original text of “Journey to the West” is also very funny (Chapter 17 of “Journey to the West”): “The Traveler laughed and said, ‘My son, stand firm and listen carefully! I: Since childhood, I have had high supernatural powers, changing with the wind and showing off my heroism. Cultivating my nature and practicing truth, enduring the sun and moon, I jumped out of the cycle of reincarnation to escape my life. With a bit of sincerity, I once sought the way, gathering medicinal herbs on Lingtai Mountain. There is an old immortal on that mountain, with a lifespan of one hundred thousand and eighty thousand years. I, Sun Wukong, took him as my master, pointing me to a path of longevity. He said there are elixirs within, while seeking outside is in vain. To obtain the Great Immortal’s secret, without a foundation, it is hard to endure. Returning light to reflect inward, sitting calmly, the sun and moon intersect within my body. Not thinking of all things, I keep desires few, with six roots pure and my body firm. Returning to youth is easy, the path to transcendence is not far. Three years without leaks to become an immortal body, different from ordinary people suffering. Ten continents and three islands still play, traveling to the ends of the earth. It’s no wonder I’m over three hundred years old and cannot ascend to the heavens. Going to sea to subdue dragons is truly a treasure, only then do I have a golden staff. In front of Flower Fruit Mountain, I am the leader, gathering demons in Water Curtain Cave. The Jade Emperor issued a decree, appointing me as the supreme one equal to heaven. Several times I caused a ruckus in the Lingxiao Palace, and I have stolen the Queen Mother’s peaches multiple times. With a hundred thousand heavenly soldiers coming to subdue me, layers upon layers of guns and knives surround me. I fought back the Heavenly Kings to return to the upper realm, while Nezha, wounded, led the troops to flee. The True Lord of Manifestation can change forms, but I, Sun Wukong, gamble hard and fall flat. The Taoist Patriarch, Guanyin, and the Jade Emperor, watched from the Southern Heavenly Gate to subdue demons. But with the help of the Old Lord, Erlang captured me to the heavenly court. Bound to the demon-subduing pillar, I was ordered to behead the divine soldiers. Knives and hammers could not break me, and they even used thunder to burn me. I, Sun Wukong, actually have my means, not afraid in the slightest. Sent into the Old Lord’s furnace to be refined, the Six Ding Divine Fire slowly simmered. When the sun was full, I jumped out of the furnace, holding an iron rod and running around the heavens. I roamed everywhere without obstruction, causing a ruckus in the thirty-three heavens. My Buddha, Tathagata, used his magical power, pressing me down under the Five Elements Mountain. I was pressed for five hundred years, fortunately encountering Tang Seng coming from the Tang Dynasty. I now return to the West, turning to Thunder Sound to see the Jade Hairpin. You go ask the four seas of heaven and earth, I am the most famous demon throughout the ages!’ The monster laughed and said, ‘So you are the one who caused a ruckus in the Heavenly Palace, the Stable Master?’” (Even a young black kid wouldn’t say this, but the Monkey King directly broke through.)
12. All the hidden map NPCs are Erlang Shen’s subordinates, sent to guide the fated ones (I can’t believe it, the biggest harm of Black Myth is that I can no longer look at his third eye). They are all the Seven Saints of Meishan. The white-clothed scholar in Chapter One is the snake spirit. The yellow-robed official in Chapter Two is the pig spirit (the drunk pig mentioned in the rattle drum quest is him). Erlang Shen gave him a gold token to open the door, but he lost it while drinking, later becoming the fallen object of Sha Dalang. “The official took out a gold token from his collar and showed it to the monk.” (Image of the yellow-robed official). The green-hatted martial artist in Chapter Three is the goat spirit (Image of the green-hatted martial artist), testing the fated ones in the melon field. The plot also hints that the novice monk let Huang Mei be the fated one: “The little novice monk chuckled and waved, saying, ‘Go on, go on, first pass my disciple’s test, then we can talk about the rest.'” And Erlang Shen kept the sixth root of the Great Sage: “The little novice monk nibbled on the melons on both sides, noncommittal: ‘That thing tests a person’s heart. He bore it alone for many years, so don’t let it fail at the last moment.'” The black-handed Taoist in Chapter Four is the centipede spirit, who entered the cocoon to gain the trust of the Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord and trained to become the eight-armed one. The bright axe warrior in Chapter Five is the ox spirit, also a loyal person, although he asked Erlang Shen to have him serve under the Bull Demon King, he still would die for a confidant.
The land spirit of Black Wind Mountain helps us because of the instructions from Patriarch Bodhi. Patriarch Bodhi foresaw that Black Wind Mountain would catch fire again, so he gave the land spirit a bunch of miraculous pills. He also taught him life-saving skills (which should be the immobilization technique and the invisibility technique): the old Taoist priest saw that he was somewhat clever, waved for him to come forward, whispered a few life-saving spells in his ear, and instructed, “If you encounter him in the mountain, you can pass on these two methods. I cannot show myself, so I can only lend you my hand to teach him a thing or two, fulfilling a bond of friendship.”
14. The story plot of Chapter Two is all in the Shadow God Map, very, very exciting, everyone must see it. Once there was a country called the Golden Kingdom, and their king was King Sha, who had three sons: Sha Dalar, Sha Erlang, and Prince Xiao Zhang (King Sha and his sons in the Shadow God Map). The eldest prince was dashing, the third prince was both cultured and martial, and the second prince was born with divine strength, but unfortunately, he was a bit foolish and not favored by the king. This country was initially a human kingdom, not a mouse kingdom. They revered Buddha: “This drum, named the Sunset Drum, was originally bestowed by the Buddha. The people relied on this drum to live in peace, and the whole country believed in Buddhism, creating many golden statues of the Buddha, also known as the Golden Buddha Kingdom.” Later, the king chose to eradicate Buddhism for power: “But as the number of believers increased and temples spread everywhere, people gradually believed in Buddha rather than the king. The king was very dissatisfied with this. The prime minister, understanding his thoughts, advised him to stop the stupas, claiming there was no Buddha. The king then ordered the destruction of temples, driving away practitioners, and renamed the country to Sihali.” “Not long after this incident arose, one evening at dusk, the city tower beat the drum, and dust flew outside the borders. A giant insect emerged from the ground, devastating the border villages, causing countless deaths and injuries.” (Weevil in the Shadow God Map) A bug demon carrying a stone-carved Buddha head attacked the border city of Sihali. The weevil is the mount of the Spirit King Bodhisattva (as can be inferred from the dialogue at the end of the chapter). The yellow-haired marten subdued the weevil disaster (Sha Dalar in the Shadow God Map). “Fortunately, a yellow-haired monk passed through this place. He was righteous and could not stand injustice, so he assisted the army in slaying the bug demon. The king honored him as the national teacher, and he practiced in Sihali for several years.” (Weevil in the Shadow God Map). To please the Yellow Wind Great Sage (Mouse General in the Shadow God Map), the king changed the year name, and issued the “Respect the Mouse Order” (Mouse Minister in the Shadow God Map), prompting the scholars of the Hanlin Academy to jointly petition the king to amend the decree, relocating the mouse demons to the southwest corner of the city to allow the people to enjoy peace. However, these people were all killed by the king, leaving only those who supported the “Respect the Mouse Order.” The eldest prince was imprisoned, and after escaping, he found that the entire country had turned into mouse people. (It is very likely that this was done by the Spirit King Bodhisattva, in the Shadow God Map). Later, the Yellow Wind Great Sage returned from subduing Sun Wukong, obtaining one of the six roots, and to refine the six roots, he took his master’s head. “He stood up and said, ‘Since I have taken my master’s most treasured possession, I will surely be able to refine that thing. From today on, I need to enter seclusion for cultivation. Those old folks in the sky said it was arranged, but it’s better to keep a hand in reserve.'” (Yellow Wind Great Sage in the Shadow God Map). He then opened the Yellow Wind Great Formation, saying, “You all move to the ridge to live, I want to open the Yellow Wind Great Formation, and no one should disturb my cultivation.” This wind turned the entire country into a desert.” Then that strange wind blew again. “(Weasel Minister in the Shadow God Map)
15. Stone Spirit Story: (Stone Shuangshuang Shadow God Picture) There are two mountain gods, Stone Mother and Stone Father. “Stone Mother is a female body formed from quartzite, and her quartzite has the ability to absorb moonlight. After a long period of refinement, she attained enlightenment before other stone spirits and was conferred the title of mountain god.” Stone Shuangshuang is the appearance of Stone Mother in her youth (prpr). (Stone Gantang Shadow God Picture) “In the past, there were several cliff stones in Huangfeng Ridge that absorbed the spiritual energy of heaven and earth and the essence of the sun and moon, thus becoming sentient and evolving into several stone spirits. Among them, two were granted the title of mountain gods due to their deep cultivation.” (Stone Mother Shadow God Picture) Stone Mother helped the Great Sage of Huangfeng kill Stone Gantang and obtained the essence and inner alchemy of the Buddha Head Stone Monster (Stone Vanguard Shadow God Picture). (Stone Gantang Shadow God Picture) “The Yellow-Furred Weasel left the Sihali Kingdom with many demons and happened to encounter two mountain gods leading several stone spirits while passing through Huangfeng Ridge, intending to drive him away. The Yellow-Furred Weasel seemed to understand the Buddha Head object very well, and a surge of spirit arose in his heart, leading the demons into battle. In a great victory, the weasel not only destroyed the Buddha Head Stone Monster but also eradicated all the flesh Buddha heads in the mountains. The essence left by the Buddha Head Stone Monster was shared with the two brave mountain gods, and he dug out the eye beads from the Buddha Head and sealed them in the valley.” The two gave birth to a stone child: “They divided and consumed it, and surprisingly, they developed human hearts and forms. The two stones combined and gave birth to a stone child.” Stone Vanguard was created by Stone Mother: “Among them was a stone spirit, extremely strong and powerful. Upon inquiry, it was learned that it was born from Stone Mother’s full effort to protect this land.” The stone spirits sealed the evil entity to suppress the essence of Stone Gantang, dividing it into six Buddha eyes. In the land of Black Wind Mountain, they did not come during fights but remembered when dividing treasures, constantly harassing Stone Mother until they were beaten into the ground by Stone Vanguard. “In the past, when the Great Sage of Huangfeng led the demons to subdue the Buddha Head Stone Monster, he had asked the land to fight together. The land merely watched from the sidelines, so when dividing the Buddha Head essence, the mountain gods had it, but he did not, which made him very envious.” (Stone Inhabitant Shadow God Picture) The Stone Inhabitant used a scheme to obtain half of Stone Mother’s essence: “One day, he transformed himself into a stone spirit and pretended to report, getting close to Stone Mother. He intended to charge at Stone Mother’s abdomen with all his might to split the stone and take the core. Unexpectedly, just as he jumped up, Stone Mother let out a sharp scream. Nearby, several stone spirits that lived underground emerged.” (Stone Father Shadow God Picture) Stone Father sought the Iron Fan Princess to resurrect the innocent girl who died tragically. However, her soul had already dispersed, so how could she be saved? Stone Father was not discouraged and waited every day with the girl’s corpse on the mountain path of Flame Mountain, hoping to win the pity of the Iron Fan Fairy, even though the girl’s body had turned to bones, he still did not give up. If you pay attention while he is being hit, you can see that he has a skeleton in his hands (I really should die). (Stone Child Shadow God Picture) After Stone Father left and did not return, Stone Child went to find his father, but unfortunately, this unlucky child went the wrong way and ended up at Flower and Fruit Mountain, watching crickets jump around and clap every day. If you hit him once, he will only wave his hand and won’t hit you back, just telling you to go away (I really should die).
16. Tiger Vanguard Story: Tiger Dad is the tiger spirit from Journey to the West. He took it upon himself to kidnap Tang Seng, and originally, the Yellow Wind Great Sage didn’t want to provoke this group (“Tiger Vanguard” Shadow God Picture). Then, Tiger Dad was killed by Sun Wukong with a single blow. Tiger Dad has two sons, Tiger Vanguard and Mad Tiger. Their family’s secret skill is the Copper Head Iron Arm. (Tiger Vanguard Shadow God Picture) After Tiger Dad’s death, the Tiger brothers became kings of the mountain. “The elder brother emulated their father, managing the mountain’s monsters, ensuring they each performed their roles and did not harm living beings at will. Later, some mortals built a village in this mountain, and the Tiger brothers, following the custom of ‘devouring the lost and wicked, escorting good people,’ earned themselves the title of ‘Tiger God.’” The villagers also built the 卧虎寺 (Crouching Tiger Temple) for the “Tiger God.” “The villagers built a Crouching Tiger Temple for the ‘Tiger God’ and often offered sacrifices, which made the Tiger brothers increasingly dissatisfied, feeling that the elder brother had taken all the glory just because he was born a few years earlier.” Later, the Yellow Wind Great Sage returned, and the Tiger brothers, seeking revenge for their father, challenged him. “The younger brother was displeased, saying it was precisely because this yellow-haired rat spirit stood by and did nothing that their father died. He urged the elder brother to drive away the rat demon, and the elder brother thought it made sense, so he agreed. However, in this battle, the Yellow Wind Great Sage summoned a weapon resembling a Bodhisattva’s head, summoning winds like blades, and with one strike, severely injured the younger brother. To save his brother’s life, the elder brother had no choice but to throw down his weapon and kneel in submission. The Yellow Wind Great Sage did not hold a grudge; upon learning of the Tiger brothers’ background, he appointed the elder brother as his vanguard.” The elder brother became Tiger Vanguard, and the younger brother became Mad Tiger. After being injured, Mad Tiger went to the bottom of a well in the village to heal (Mad Tiger Shadow God Picture), and the story follows the plot of the Tiger Servant. From Mad Tiger’s pre-battle voice lines, it can be seen that Mad Tiger is a man-eater; in his view, it is only natural for monsters to eat people. Later, Tiger Vanguard began to eat rat people every day (A Q Spirit) “For Tiger Vanguard, that yellow-haired marten rat caused him to lose his family twice, which is truly hateful. But aside from eating more rats every day to vent his anger, what else could he do?”
17. The story of the Tiger Minion suggests that the Tiger Minion is someone who assists the tiger. Due to the Yellow Wind Saint blowing the wind, the city was affected by the yellow wind, causing his wife to fall ill and pass away, and his son also became sick. (Tiger Minion Shadow God Map) He discovered a mad tiger in a well, and the mad tiger said that his gourd could save his son, but the condition was that he had to eat people. The Tiger Minion “truly hardened his heart, luring people into the well to heal the tiger god.” Later, he was discovered by the villagers, and the child was killed by the villagers, leading the Tiger Minion to kill all the villagers and flee.
18. The story of the Hundred-Eyed True Man suggests that he came from the Silk Cave (Hundred-Eyed True Man Shadow God Map), serving as the Demon Lord’s pig-raising tool. “The flesh lump on his hunchback suddenly opened countless eyes, slowly absorbing the surrounding blood and souls. Before long, the flesh lump swelled up a circle, until it could no longer absorb, and then the eyes slowly closed.” He seems to be a disciple of Ling Tai Fang Cun Mountain. “He claims to have learned skills at Ling Tai Fang Cun Mountain, and as long as the Demon Lord hands over that item, he will immediately surrender and be let go. The Demon Lord sent the Bug General to subdue this strange person, as usual, placing him into the cave’s egg for cultivation. Unexpectedly, a few days later, a little demon reported that the egg had been broken, and the person had escaped. Upon hearing this, the Demon Lord chuckled.”
19. The things sold by the Stone Man are all multiples of 648, and they sell them at high prices, ripping off players (I got scammed for 32,800 in my first playthrough) (What a money-grabbing mobile game!).
20. The Stupa Realm is the place where the Yellow Brow Sorcerer practices his craft, locking a bunch of monsters inside to make them kill each other. (戒刀僧影神图) “Call them the 戒刀僧, enter the Stupa Realm to cultivate. If one can truly behead a thousand heads, they may become an Arhat in the main hall.” “But as the path to enlightenment becomes increasingly difficult, what remains in the Stupa Realm are all strong beings: the agile starving ghosts, who cannot be caught; the towering lamp-holding jailers, who are not to be provoked; the capricious yaksha slaves, who grow fiercer with each fight; even the weakest cloud-piercing ghosts, since they practiced closed-eye meditation, have become crazed and terrifying.”
21. The Story of the Red-Butt Monkey: In “Journey to the West,” the Red-Butt Monkey is the commander under Sun Wukong. (Welcoming Monk Shadow God Picture) After Flower-Fruit Mountain was destroyed, the Red-Butt Monkey led his subordinates away from the mountain, seeking a new place to cultivate. They trekked to Flame Mountain, hoping to settle there. Soon, a plague broke out among the monkeys, and the Red-Butt Monkey ordered the sick monkeys to be thrown into a deep valley. This act instilled fear in the other monkeys, causing them to leave him and start wandering. “The Welcoming Monk is just a bunch of monkeys; they hate the Red-Butt Monkey. They wait every day to see the Red-Butt Monkey, and when that time comes, they will definitely ring the gong to summon all the demons and give him a good beating!” The reason for the monkeys’ illness was likely due to the land god of Flame Mountain, who used elixirs to control them, resulting in a pair of black feathered wings. Huangmei also said this was a low-level skill, indicating it was a Taoist method (Walking Shadow God Picture). Unexpectedly, time was short, and the monkey group fell ill. The monkeys began to lose their fur, their skin rotting, and large black pus-filled lumps appeared on their backs, which was terrifying. The plague spread rapidly, and many monkeys suffered to the point of wishing for death. As the leader of the monkey group, the Red-Butt Monkey ordered the infected monkeys to be thrown to the bottom of the Danzao Valley, leaving them to fend for themselves. The abandoned sick monkeys cursed their former companions daily, and just as they were about to die from their illness, the land god arrived with miraculous medicine to save them. After half a month, their skin healed; after a month, the pus-filled lumps on their backs burst, revealing a pair of black feathered wings. The land god carefully taught them how to fly and accepted their loyalty, bringing them under his command. Since they ranked tenth, they were given the name Xingzhi. The first task assigned to Xingzhi was to clear out the Red-Butt Monkey’s camp. They ruthlessly killed the traitors, and only the more skilled Red-Butt Monkey managed to survive, but no one knew where he had escaped to.
22. The yellow-browed monk cosplays as Tang Seng, with four disciples: Not Empty, Not Able, Not Pure, and Little White Dragon, who respectively cosplay as Wukong, Wuneng, Wujing, and the Little White Dragon. Every day, he looks for Jin Chanzi to gamble, even though Jin Chanzi clearly doesn’t want to gamble. His catchphrase is: “Jin Chanzi, I won again.” He is the best at archery. He yearns for the survival of the fittest, natural selection, and it’s a pity not to study evolution. The yellow-browed monk says: “This struggle, this joy, this determination, this pleasure, this endless cycle of suffering and happiness, never satisfied, never ceasing! And this is precisely the source of the flourishing of the three thousand worlds. Naturally, it is also the true meaning of all life.” (Yellow-browed Shadow God Map) The final boss battle with the yellow-browed monk is very exciting; if you use the clone technique against him, your clones will all be brainwashed and rebel.
23. Wukong’s Story: The scholar in the ending animation of Chapter Two is also Huangmei’s earliest disciple, corresponding to Wukong (Wukong Shadow God Map). After killing the little fox, he became a monk, later rendered speechless by Bukan: “Although the senior brother does not leave the palace, he enjoys seeking people to debate and discuss Zen. One day, Bukan came to ask him: ‘Senior brother, is killing a sin?’ Wukong replied: ‘Killing is a sin. But if it is for the Great Way and one must kill, then it is not a sin.’ Bukan countered: ‘Then what is the Great Way?’ Wukong answered: ‘It is the clear awareness of emptiness, the fullness of blessings and virtues, ascending to the Pure Land, entering the Pure Land.’ Bukan asked again: ‘Killing not only cannot resolve karma but also creates more karmic obstacles, how then can one ascend to the Pure Land?’ Wukong replied: ‘If I do not enter hell, who will? If one does not kill, it leaves harm for others, is that not a greater lack of blessings and virtues?’ Bukan laughed and said: ‘Senior brother, you say you will enter hell, which shows that killing is wrong no matter what. Good people have their rewards, why must you take this extra step?’ Wukong urgently said: ‘Entering hell is just a metaphor; the true meaning is to suffer for others…’ Bukan interrupted: ‘Nonsense! Killing is killing, why all this roundabout talk? Senior brother, cleverly naming it, I desire the law; the pretense behind killing is the real sin.’ Upon hearing this, Wukong was momentarily speechless, as if recalling some past events. After this, the two never discussed Zen again.” In the small Western Heaven, a newcomer entered the temple, and they didn’t even issue a thick robe: “One day, Master Wukong was pleased to receive a new disciple and personally led him to the storeroom to get a robe. The little disciple discovered that this robe was made of a single layer of cloth, barely sufficient on this snowy peak. He asked: ‘Master, this thin robe should be summer clothing, can I change to a woolen one?’ Wukong shook his own robe and said: ‘What I wear is the same as this one you hold, just a bit more ornate. With a heart of prajna, one naturally fears not the cold.’ The little disciple was skeptical and asked: ‘I see many frozen senior brothers by the roadside…’ Wukong kindly said: ‘They are all people with insufficient understanding and weak Zen hearts. You are different; I can see you have the roots of wisdom.’ The little disciple felt delighted and happily returned with his master holding the robe. Not long after, a new frozen zombie appeared outside the temple. Elder Wukong led the new disciple past it, and the new disciple asked: ‘Master, did these senior brothers freeze to death?’ Wukong slowly walked forward and said: ‘Do not fear, they are insincere, without wisdom roots; you are different…'”
23. Unable to argue: Corresponding to Wuneng, the only designated good person in Little West Heaven, your martial arts are much stronger than Huangmei’s. (Unable to Shadow God Map) Unable to debate with Huangmei, angering him to the point of sending him to reflect in front of the stone wall outside the temple: “One day, Huangmei summoned him closer to teach him some techniques to defeat enemies. However, the second senior brother said, ‘Disciple believes my fist techniques are enough to win, no need for other methods.’ Upon hearing this, Huangmei laughed and said, ‘Your straightforwardness is merely a lack of adaptability. How can you progress further while binding yourself like this?’ Unable replied, ‘Disciple feels that if I use methods I do not agree with to win, even if I win in the end, I may appear capable on the surface, but inside I will still feel unable.’ Huangmei asked, ‘Do you not agree with my way?’ Unable said, ‘Master, you have always taken clever paths, which makes it difficult for you to attain Buddhahood. It seems you can do everything, but in reality, you cannot do anything.’ After hearing this, Huangmei chuckled a few times, ordered someone to bind his hands behind his back, and made him reflect in front of the stone wall outside the temple. He initially thought that after kneeling for a few days, he would let go of his obsession, but unexpectedly, he was very stubborn and refused to bow his head even until today. Unable is quite liked by the monks: (Superintendent Monk Shadow God Map) Among them, the monks who love martial arts have always followed the second senior brother Unable to practice and train. Their nature is also very similar to the second senior brother, always fighting for justice, thus earning the title of Superintendent Monk.
24. Impure Plot: Corresponding to Wu Jing, Wu Jing is diligent and earnest, while Impure loves to be lazy the most. His combat power corresponds to Wu Jing. His moves are also the same as those of the 86 version of Wu Jing.
25. Not White’s Plot: Corresponding to the White Dragon Horse, the White Dragon Horse works hard and bears grievances as a supporting character, while Not White only wants to be the main character. Cyber chanting is the second boss battle voiceover for Not White, but it can only be triggered after a while, and Not White’s strength isn’t very impressive, so it seems that no one has noticed. “Everyone was momentarily taken aback, and afterwards, in inexplicable fear, they thought the clown had hysteria, so they bound him up and sent him to a temple a thousand miles away for quiet meditation. The temple’s abbot was overjoyed to see him, granted him the title of ‘Not White,’ and even created a unique dual cultivation technique of poison and ice for him. The abbot told him that as long as he could wait for a destined person who could perfect his technique, he could wear his face and be a true hero for once.”
26. Yasha Kingdom Plot: Before Chapter Five, many minor monsters are Yashas, who are all wandering Yashas after the fall of the Yasha Kingdom. (Red-haired Ghost Shadow Divine Image) “In the Yasha Kingdom, there are eight great generals, one of whom is named Mi Yan. He once practiced under the Golden Summit Immortal at the foot of Ling Mountain, in the Yu Zhen Temple. After countless battles, he possesses the courage to face ten thousand enemies.” (Yasha Slave Shadow Divine Image) “Three years later, Chou Nu’s figure gradually became robust, growing sharp horns and spikes on his body. The old man became increasingly fearful and tied him up in the woodshed, using a firewood knife to shave off his spikes, leaving him bleeding profusely.” (Ghost Lantern Shadow Divine Image) “The four Yashas were originally arguing fiercely, but upon hearing this, they immediately joined forces to refute: ‘You do not understand, only with free speech can we be proactive.’ Another chimed in: ‘Disagreements are best resolved openly; knowing each other well fosters deep feelings.’ The third quickly added: ‘Exactly. We have supported each other to survive until now; even if our words are heated, it does not harm our harmony.’ The last one concluded: ‘We Yashas are nothing like you insect demons, who are harmonious on the surface but harbor much resentment inside.’ After saying this, the four of them left arm in arm, leaving the insect demons, who could not understand them, rolling their eyes in response.”
27. Crane Immortal Plot: The Crane Immortal is definitely a Taoist figure, very likely the Supreme Old Lord. (The Shadow God Picture of the Falcon Recluse) indicates his connection with the Supreme Old Lord. “The Crane Immortal then lent him the Banana Fan, saying: ‘This is a failed work of the Old Lord; since you also make fans, I shall gift it to you.'” The Crane Immortal has a very good relationship with Wang Lingguan, both sent by the Jade Emperor. (The Shadow God Picture of Hongyi) “The newly appointed Star Official of the Altair thanked him, and the Jade Emperor sent the Crane Immortal and Wang Lingguan to escort him to his post, along with two bottles of imperial wine and ten golden flowers.” Wang Lingguan is the Taiyi Thunder Sound Transformation Celestial Venerable in Taoism, representing the Jade Emperor personally as his right hand.
28. Rakshasa Kingdom Plot: (Elder Lei’s Shadow God Map) “Along with the fall of the Yaksha Kingdom, the Rakshasa Kingdom also perished, simply because they share a common origin, thus they must face destruction together.” The Rakshasa women practice dual cultivation, originally from the Buddhist sect, later learning from the Daoist sect (since the Rakshasa women migrated east, they recognized a master in the heavenly realm, thus practicing both Buddhism and Daoism). The Rakshasa clan appears frightening, but in reality, they are good people (I truly deserve to die). (Earth Rakshasa Shadow God Map) (Sea Rakshasa Shadow God Map) “Upon hearing that they wished to cultivate, the princess took them in. To avoid frightening the common people, she crafted a golden gem mask for the Sea Rakshasa, and the Rakshasa King forged them enormous shields, making them the princess’s guards. A century later, the Rakshasa Kingdom fell, and the Sea Rakshasa escorted the princess eastward, enduring countless hardships along the way, finally settling at Flame Mountain. To better protect the princess, they even learned the skill of fire swallowing, their blue skin turning bright red. They now reside in the Fire River, stirring waves in Flame Mountain, spewing flowing flames. Even though the Rakshasa woman has long lost her youthful beauty, she knows that the most loyal guards standing outside her palace do not care about her appearance.”
29. The Faced Demon King and the Clay Buddha: Once they are both killed, the world will be at peace. “The courtyard master clapped his hands and laughed, saying, ‘Good Buddha, since you all believe each other is wrong, then I will help you take revenge and settle your grudges.’ This matter spread, and the villagers were shocked. Some cursed the courtyard master as a sorcerer or a demon, while others said he was immensely powerful, but no one dared to show him any disrespect.”
30. Prince Xiao Zhang and the Four Demon Generals Plot: In “Journey to the West,” Prince Xiao Zhang is one of the reinforcements who comes to rescue Sun Wukong from Huangmei. Later, during the second battle against Huangmei, they suffered a disastrous defeat; the four demon generals were either brainwashed or died in battle. “Master, the first general argued with Huangmei and was deceived by him, now he speaks demonic words and incites us in prison.” “Master, the second general had his head twisted off by Huangmei, bursting into pus and blood, and a lotus bloomed at the temple gate.” “Master, the third general threw his weapon at Huangmei, but had his limbs broken and then reattached to someone else’s limbs.” “Master, the fourth general was struck by a wolf-tooth club, piercing his body, and roots grew from every hollow.”
31. The plot of the Sea Monk originally features a fish called He Luo, which has only one head but ten bodies (this is also the image of Sun Wukong’s six roots) (Sea Monk Shadow God Diagram)
32. The story of the Kang Jinlong, one of the twenty-eight constellations. In order to find Sun Wukong’s six roots in the Little Western Heaven, he uses the excuse of searching for the lost and unknown Maoriji (Kang Jinlong Shadow God Map). “Huangmei is not angry, only saying: ‘You would never take such a risk for that watchful chicken. You came for that monkey.'” Later, Huangmei brainwashes him with a bag and the six roots (I can’t believe this evil fall), leaving behind the famous plot clue: “Huangmei laughed loudly: ‘So, is he still the hero you are familiar with?'” Kang Jinlong asked: “Is he the same as all the gods and Buddhas in the sky?” In “Journey to the West,” it is indeed Kang Jinlong who opens the golden gong to rescue him. In the game, he also opens the golden gong to rescue Bajie. The storyline should be that Bajie arrives at the Little Western Heaven a few days early, then gets captured by Huangmei and placed in the golden gong, with the delusion of taking Bajie as a disciple.
33. The Story of the Turtle and Snake Generals: (Turtle General Shadow God Map), the Turtle and Snake Generals engage in a fierce battle with Huang Mei after obtaining the root artifact, resulting in one death and one injury. Wuliang Bat kills the Snake General.
34. Spirit Fox Storyline: In the ending animation of Chapter Two, the scholar saves the spirit fox, who has fallen into a hunter’s trap. The spirit fox transforms into a human to repay the scholar. They marry and have children, and their child becomes successful, returning home in glory. The couple lives a life like that of immortal lovers. One day, the scholar returns home only to find the house covered in blood; his grandson has been killed, and his son is being bitten to death by the transformed spirit fox (in this moment, the spirit fox seems to have tears). The scholar awakens, realizing it was all a dream. Filled with regret, the scholar kills the spirit fox and makes a scarf from its fur, thereafter becoming a monk with Huang Mei.
35. Wushan Plot: The storyline of Wushan Niangniang and Zizhu Niangniang, the two are at odds but often visit each other. (Wushan Little Demon Shadow God Map) One time, Wushan Niangniang gave Zizhu Niangniang a Bone Mirror (most likely to disgust Zizhu Niangniang). The Bone Mirror can reveal a person’s truest form; in the plot, after Bajie looks into the Bone Mirror, he sees himself as Tianpeng Marshal, indicating that he has never changed at his core. Although his appearance has changed, he has always been that Tianpeng Marshal. However, Zizhu Niangniang is different; she descended from being a fairy, gradually consuming humans and becoming a demon. She is already a monster, and although she has always dressed as she did at the beginning, at her core, she has become a spider spirit. The reflection in the Bone Mirror is likely that of a spider spirit. This point can also be confirmed in the final animation of the ending. After the two have a fierce fight, Wushan Niangniang no longer moves.
36. Sixth Sister’s Story: Sixth Sister is the youngest sister and also the daughter of Bajie. “They originally wanted to see the little girl get angry and stomp her feet, but unexpectedly, the little girl pouted and said dismissively, ‘You are only so eager to make connections because your skills are too low, right? Anyone my mother would choose would definitely not be filthy things like you.'”
37. Wumei’s Story: Wumei has a great relationship with Sanmei, and Wumei has a fiery personality.
38. Fourth Sister’s Story: (Sixth Sister Shadow God Picture) Fourth Sister will take Sixth Sister to study and play: “Only Fourth Sister will strictly urge her to practice. Sometimes when she practices hard, Fourth Sister will take her to the mountain top to gaze at the scenery outside and tell her stories from beyond the mountains. Although she enjoys following Fourth Sister, Fourth Sister often goes into the mountains to explore secrets unknown to her. Fourth Sister always says it’s dangerous and refuses to take her along, which makes her feel bored. ‘Fourth Sister has a strong personality (Fourth Sister Shadow God Picture) Fourth Sister sits at the end, feeling bored, and lightly hums, saying, “Sisters are too polite, speaking so indirectly, I’m afraid they won’t understand. What looking at each other really means is just wanting us to pay money to marry a man, and they want to make us part of their scheme. What good men with silver tongues, if they really had the ability, why not earn their own fortune? Isn’t that better than boasting and embarrassing themselves here?'”
39. Third Sister’s Story: Fifth Sister and Third Sister have a very good relationship. Third Sister loves poetry and painting (Fourth Sister’s Shadow God Picture). Third Sister, holding a fan, says, “I want to marry someone who plays the zither and lute in harmony. I love Luo Yin’s poetry the most. Among the four heroes, is there anyone who has read it?” However, she is soft-hearted, so Fifth Sister becomes her best helper. (Third Sister’s Shadow God Picture) “Third Sister teaches weaving patterns while Fifth Sister holds a ruler by her side. If there is someone who is particularly unteachable, Fifth Sister, being straightforward, will report it to Second Sister, and that weaver will have no escape, sealed in a cocoon and treated as a meal. It is said that because Eldest Sister and Second Sister have complicated matters, Fifth Sister has been following her since childhood. She is too quiet, so Fifth Sister becomes her other half. The two sisters bicker and quarrel, but life is quite enjoyable.”
40. Second Sister’s Story: Second Sister is responsible for managing the business in the mortal realm. (Wushan Little Demon Shadow God Map) “We dare not compare ourselves to the heavens, but our Second Lady does have some business in the mortal world, not lacking in silver. It’s difficult to say, if she doesn’t find a way to acquire more, how could we have lasted until today?” (Fourth Sister Shadow God Map) Second Sister chuckled, “I’m the only one busy holding up the family business, with many holes to fill. If… I were to marry down, who among you would be willing to fill this financial gap? I would consider it.” The business in Zhu Family Village is quite special, being a state-run dyeing and weaving operation (Claw Silk Shadow God Map). They weave fabric called “Zhuzi” using heavenly threads. “There is a rumor in the Zhuzi Kingdom: no matter how many generations the king changes, the Zhu family of the state-run dyeing and weaving bureau never moves. It is said that the Zhu family can weave a fabric called ‘Xiangzhen Sha,’ as lustrous as moonlight and as ethereal as piled clouds, which is greatly favored by nobles and wealthy households. The weavers in the city have been envious for a long time, but no one has ever been able to replicate Xiangzhen Sha. Gradually, everyone says that the Zhu family can weave this fabric entirely thanks to a jade shuttle bestowed by the Red-Clad Immortal Mother.” The weaver in the Shadow God Map is the father of Mi Daoist. “The weaver walked alone through the fabric drying area, and a beam of pure white light suddenly fell in the center of the drying area. The moonlight dimmed, and the surroundings fell into deep darkness, with only that beam of light connecting heaven and earth. The weaver stumbled over and saw that the beam of light was actually made up of countless hanging silk threads, with two giant silkworms turning the hanging threads into cocoons, suspended on the drying rack. Those cocoons extended their hooked legs outward, catching the silk threads and passing a jade shuttle to each other, weaving exquisite fabric.”
41. Eldest Sister’s Story: The eldest sister manages all the big and small matters at home. (Second Sister’s Shadow God Picture) “The eldest sister said gently, ‘There are many sisters at home, and our mother is ill. I do not wish to unload this burden for now, so that my younger sisters do not suffer. Let’s wait a few more years.'” (Eldest Sister’s Shadow God Picture) The eldest sister of the Zhu family is gentle and peaceful in her actions, treating her younger sisters like a mother, taking care of all the daily matters. Even the straightforward Second Sister and the independent Fourth Sister behave obediently in front of the eldest sister, showing a bit of the innocent demeanor of younger daughters. Every day, she manages the meals in the cave, the clothing of everyone, and those who are sick or arguing seek her out, as do those who are happy or sad, keeping her busy all day long. The little demons who come to relay messages to her are always coming and going: “Madam, the Second Madam and the Fourth Madam have gotten into a fight.” “Madam, the Fifth Madam scolded a weaver, and now they are short-handed over there, asking if someone can be sent over.” “Madam, the Sixth Madam injured her energy channels while practicing, please go take a look.”
42. The Four Sons of Poison Enemy Mountain: The Pan Silk Cave only accepts son-in-laws, (Wushan Little Demon Shadow God Map) “Our grandmother cannot leave this place, and the business outside is all handled by good people. Because we only accept son-in-laws, the talented young men are unwilling to come, and the grandmothers who do come are not interested. Look over there, the four from Poison Enemy Mountain, their family is in decline, and their descendants are not impressive, only one is somewhat acceptable. The grandmothers refuse to marry, saying that whoever encounters a heavenly marriage on that day will be the unlucky one to marry him.” The Four Sons of Poison Enemy Mountain want to become son-in-laws, but none have been favored. Among them, Scorpion is the most capable, the one in the plot carrying the spirit essence, in order to please the second sister, he obeys and guards the Immortal Vine, and in the game, you can see that attachments can obtain Immortal Vine materials. (Second Sister Shadow God Map) “A few days ago, I don’t know where she found an Immortal Vine seed, planted it in the courtyard of the cave, and asked Scorpion to guard it for her. Scorpion happily agreed, secretly thinking that this must mean the second sister has feelings for him, and he went to the Demon Lord to seek help in matchmaking. The Demon Lord shook his head upon hearing this, saying that a woman with such strong opinions would only look down on you more if someone else tried to propose for you; it’s safer to rely on yourself. After returning to the cave, Scorpion walked around the Immortal Vine again and again, but to this day, he still hasn’t come up with a good plan.”
43. Story of the Spider Cave: (Mantis Bug Spirit Shadow Map) “By the time of the Yan Kang years, the hot spring in Ganquan Village suddenly dried up, and many insect demons emerged from the mountains. The villagers then moved down the mountain to live. After another twenty years or so, this place was renamed Spider Ridge.”
44. The Story of the Mi Daoist: The story of the Mi Daoist is divided into three parts: (The Shadow God Map of the Ant Bee Spirit), (The Shadow God Map of the Centipede), and (The Shadow God Map of the Mi Daoist). There is a young boy whose father was killed by the Zhu family village. He was captured upon entering the village but became friends with Liu Mei, feeling very conflicted inside. Later, the boy was found with a murder weapon and was thrown into a deep pit by the Qingyi Fairy. The boy escaped from the Pan Si Cave after spending a full ten days imitating the behavior of centipedes, studying their habits, living with them, and eating with them. Later, he became a disciple of the Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord, only to discover that they were all monsters who ate people. Subsequently, a banquet was held in the temple, inviting all the fairies to sit down. The boy secretly watched from the side and saw that the table was filled with various dishes, including oil-fried human flesh, freshly boiled human meat, tofu blocks made from fried human brains, and meat buns filled with human flesh. He could only watch as the demons feasted on human flesh, overwhelmed by the stench. After that, the Mi Daoist became determined to seek immortality.
45. Mantis Larva Storyline: (Mantis Larva Shadow God Image) The mantis larva was originally a soil insect from Kunlun Mountain, which transformed into a mantis larva in the lower realm. (Mantis Immortal Shadow God Image) “One of the immortal eggs was used to redeem the guilty, while the other was hidden away by someone with ulterior motives. As it nurtured into a different kind of being, it was called the Mantis Immortal.” One immortal egg was used by the Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord to transform the Star Official of the Rising Sun into the Demon Lord of the Waning Moon, while another immortal egg hatched the Mantis Immortal, responsible for laying eggs and turning mortals into insect demons.
46. Huanghua Temple Disciples Plot: There are three types of disciples at Huanghua Temple: Sword-Wielding Taoists, Dust-Waving Taoists, and Staff-Holding Taoists. Sword-Wielding Taoists are elite disciples who can enter seclusion in the mountains after ten years of study. If they have a chance for immortality, they can enter the Immortal Ladder Kingdom and wait for ascension. Dust-Waving Taoists are the ones who do miscellaneous tasks. Staff-Holding Taoists are regular disciples. (Insect Feather Shadow God Map) After entering the mountains, Sword-Wielding Taoists will reach the peak of Ziyun Mountain, which is the location of the Heavenly Silk. The Demon Lord will give them insect eggs: “After speaking, he distributed a strange item of lotus color to each person, saying, ‘This is the elixir that will assist you in your transformation into immortals. Quickly consume it, disciples.'” After eating, these individuals will transform into insect demons, which is the plot of the Mi Daoist.
47. The story of the Buddha Hand Bug: It has been pointed out in reviews that the Buddha Hand Bug likely hatched from the hands of the Bodhisattva Pīlàn. There are many clues: the Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord mentioned that there was a failed transformation on Ziyun Mountain. Upon learning this news, the Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord was very pleased and held a banquet to celebrate. During the feast, he said to the Spider Spirit, “Sister, you may not know, but I also tried once on Ziyun Mountain. Unexpectedly, that celestial egg did not transform, and I was severely scolded by my master. This time, I have come to understand; the celestial egg given by my master cannot bear such a great karmic connection. It is just as it is, just as it is.” The celestial egg had previously been tried on the Star God of the Pleiades, (the Shadow God Picture of the Dark Moon Demon Lord) the bug demon took out a golden cocoon and said, “We, the wild mountain demons, are unworthy of this item; it is better to let you try it.” (the Shadow God Picture of the Right-Hand Bug) “Inside that blood membrane, something seems to be writhing, as if something has been nurtured inside, eager to break out. Just at the ten-year mark, two bugs broke out of the egg, their bodies like bees, tails like hands, spewing poison; birds and beasts that come into contact die, and plants that are contaminated wither.” The Star God of the Pleiades is the son of the Bodhisattva Pīlàn, and since the Star God was transformed into a Demon Lord, the Bodhisattva Pīlàn could not just stand by and watch unless something also happened to her. Additionally, the Bodhisattva Pīlàn belongs to the Rakshasa clan, and it is very likely that something happened along with the Rakshasa Kingdom, which is why the Star God of the Pleiades was transformed. (the Shadow God Picture of the Crane Immortal): “The Crane Immortal smoothed the wrinkles on the Star Lord’s clothes and said sadly, ‘If he had not left silently, how would you be here?'” The left-hand bug seems to have been eaten by Boligebobo, and the dropped item is the left hand of Buddha, and Boligebobo’s tongue is a Buddha hand.
48. Purple Spider Lady’s Story: The Purple Spider was originally a celestial fairy, but later descended to the mortal realm and was imprisoned in the Silk Cave. In “Journey to the West,” she gave birth to the Sixth Sister with Bajie in one night. Bajie couldn’t bring himself to kill her and let her go free. The Purple Spider survived on the flesh and blood of her sisters, but it left her with a lingering illness, requiring her to marry regularly and prey on her husbands (as seen at the beginning of Chapter Four). In the wedding CG, the makeup of the Purple Spider Lady is the same as her appearance when she first met Bajie in the chapter-ending animation CG.
49. Poison Enemy King Storyline: In “Journey to the West,” the wife of the Poison Enemy King is the crab spirit that was shouted to death by the Star Official of the Sun. The Poison Enemy Mountain is close to the Western Liang Women’s Kingdom, and the mountain also inherits the tradition of the Western Liang Women’s Kingdom, where women are revered. The demon king in this mountain is a female scorpion spirit, also known as the Wind and Moon Demon, who is exceptionally enchanting and beautiful. She practices the way of the “Movement” sect, is highly skilled in bedroom arts, and is adept at matters of pleasure, which is why she has countless partners among fellow practitioners. “He is determined to avenge his wife, but the Star Official of the Sun is the natural enemy of insect spirits, so he can only guard against the Dark Moon Demon Lord. In the game, if you do not fight the Poison Enemy King, he will help you fight the Dark Moon Demon Lord. Then in the second phase, the Poison Enemy King will be instantly killed by the Dark Moon Demon Lord with a single shout.
50. The Story of the Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord: The Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord is the senior brother of the Purple Spider, and it seems that the Pan Si Cave was sent by the Queen Mother (Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord Shadow God Map). The Crane Immortal did not comment, sighing, “Your little schemes are all seen by His Majesty. Ignoring them is to give her some face.” The Demon Lord replied with a dry laugh, “The Queen Mother’s intention is that the other side has taken too much advantage. This time, it’s just right to collect both the principal and the interest.” He hoped to return to the heavens by killing the destined person. “The Crane Immortal flicked his whisk, as if swatting flies, and casually said, ‘Once the matter is accomplished, you can leave. They will stay.'” The Demon Lord slightly relaxed his brows and deeply bowed to the immortal. The treasure used by the Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord to defeat the Star Official of the Sun seems to be the Queen Mother’s hairpin (Dark Moon Demon Lord Shadow God Map): “Seeing that the insect demon was holding a brilliantly shining golden hairpin, he suddenly realized. He wanted to ask, but could not make a sound, feeling unbearable pain, as if that vile insect had used the golden hairpin to slice open his throat in one swift motion.”
51. Bajie’s Story: Originally the Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy, he was cast down to the mortal realm for interrupting the Jade Emperor’s secret meeting and became a pig demon. After a marriage in Gao Laozhuang, he was discovered to be a demon and abandoned, embarking on the journey to the West. He spent a night with Zizhu and fathered the sixth sister. In Bajie’s shadow god picture, there is also a little Easter egg featuring Sha Shidi: “When the Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy entered the palace gate, he saw a strong man blocking the entrance, being stopped by the fairy guarding the door. The fairy said indifferently, ‘Without an invitation written by the Queen Mother, you cannot enter the elegant seats by the pond. There are a few empty spots in the side hall; if you don’t mind, you can go there for a drink.’ The strong man responded, but his eyes were still peering inside.” (Black Myth: Wukong, Sha Shidi admiring the lotus banquet)
52. Hongyi and the Star God of Subao Plot: The Star God of Subao is the son of the Bodhisattva Pīlàn of Ziyun Mountain. Hongyi and the Star God of Subao are childhood friends, and she can be considered a half-sister. (Hongyi Shadow God Image) It is worth mentioning that the phrase “I can’t bring myself to do it” appears three times in Chapter Four. Once when the Daoist Mi deceives us into attacking the Daoist, saying: “Little layman, if you have the heart, then end them for me. We are all from the same sect, I can’t bring myself to do it.” Once when Hongyi urges us to fight the Dark Moon Demon Lord: “Hurry and save him, being trapped there must be worse than death. I watched him grow up since childhood, I can’t bring myself to do it…” Once when Lady Zizhu says to the Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord: “When I truly see him, I… I can’t bring myself to do it.” (A sigh of emotion)
Chapter 5’s plot is actually very simple once clarified; the core revolves around familial love and brotherhood. Let’s start from the beginning, the story begins with the destruction of the Yaksha Kingdom. The Yaksha Kingdom was originally one of the eight divisions of Buddhism, possessing immense combat power, but for some unknown reason, it was attacked by the Buddhas of the West. (Image of Red Boy) But he was very excited: “But I am very powerful; I defeated monks as tall as mountains, flying monsters, and fire-breathing statues… I am not afraid of them at all.” Later, as the Yaksha faced extinction, the Yaksha King’s child also died. “I dreamed that I was killed by them and turned into a red lotus flower. My mother picked this lotus flower, and I became her child.” To preserve the Yaksha bloodline, Taishang Laojun proposed to transform his son into a blood lotus. The Yaksha King committed suicide while making Princess Iron Fan drink from the Mother River to allow the Yaksha child to reincarnate. (Image of Yaksha King) “As long as you have a trace of unwillingness, why not try my method? The unfinished business in your heart, I will arrange for you.” The visitor said: “This red lotus is the essence of your son. To ensure it does not dissipate until successful reincarnation, it will require your life, along with the water from the Mother River.” Thus, Princess Iron Fan gave birth to Red Boy (as mentioned in the hidden plot of Chapter 5). The land of Flame Mountain was originally a servant of Taishang Laojun, who was demoted to the mortal realm after Sun Wukong kicked down several fire bricks during the havoc in Heaven, forming Flame Mountain. The servant was thus sent down to become the land of Flame Mountain. Princess Iron Fan became Taishang Laojun’s disciple after the land of Flame Mountain, but her master made her call him senior sister. Princess Iron Fan’s banana fan was also bestowed by Taishang Laojun. Later, due to the alchemy furnace being overturned, he was severely punished by his master, while other disciples looked on coldly; only this cheap senior sister voluntarily descended to help him a lot. “After some time, the master promised his senior sister to a demon king in the mortal realm. Although he felt somewhat regretful, he understood that he ultimately did not have the status; no matter how much dirty work he did for his master, he would never be worthy of her in his master’s eyes.” Princess Iron Fan was originally cultivating both Buddhism and Taoism, but due to her child’s situation, she found herself caught between the two factions. Taishang Laojun intended for Red Boy to be a pawn of the Taoist faction to counterbalance the Buddhist faction. However, both Princess Iron Fan and the Bull Demon King developed feelings for Red Boy and were reluctant to see him face a tragic fate. (Image of Princess Iron Fan) She even went to the Doushuai Palace to seek her master’s audience. Her master only advised her earnestly: “Raising a child does not mean you have to be a real mother. Let him cause trouble; as long as you and your husband do not interfere, you can ensure safety.” She sought help from all connections, but who would be willing to confront the Buddhas of the West for her? She then went to the West, met her master, Tathagata, and her final words indicated that she wanted to sever her ties with the Buddhist faction for her family, henceforth only being a disciple of the Taoist faction, each side becoming enemies. (Image of Princess Iron Fan) “I…” She lowered her head: “Disciple…” “Disciple comes to pay respects on behalf of the master.” A loud laugh echoed. (Image of the Mighty Ax Warrior) “What about the Bull Demon King? He was once called by the same names as Sun Wukong, one called ‘Equal to Heaven’ and the other ‘Flat Heaven.’ Later, he was captured and went to the West to worship Buddha, losing his wife and children. He thought he exchanged his brother’s life for freedom, but was he not still a pawn? He was afraid, afraid of losing his wife and children. He kept the Six Roots of the Great Sage in his stomach, not allowing anyone to touch them. Red Boy and Princess Iron Fan also felt sorry for him. Red Boy thought he was cowardly, did not believe in heaven, and wanted to fight against heaven like Sun Wukong after obtaining one of the Six Roots. Then the heavenly mandate came. (Image of the Mighty Ax Warrior) The young man pondered slightly and said: “Father, why not hand that thing over to me for safekeeping?” The Bull Demon King darkened his expression and did not respond. The young man said: “Father, you can entrust the mountain field to me; it is merely an external object, why care? Moreover, since you obtained it, you have become increasingly haggard, and mother is very worried.” (Image of Pingping) Red Boy looked at the burning red clouds in the sky and said: “Sister, you should go out and see more. In this world, there is no such thing as being free from competition; it is all self-deception after failing to compete!”
54. Princess Iron Fan’s Story: Princess Iron Fan is the highest-ranking good person in the entire game. She will bring rain to the surrounding villagers without needing any offerings (Bull Captain Shadow God Map). “Bull Captain quickly knelt before the princess to beg for mercy, only to find that the princess did not need any offerings at all. During the spring plowing and summer planting seasons, she would naturally cast spells for the villagers nearby. The notion of offerings is entirely unfounded.”
The shadow god picture of the cow school guard is very funny; everyone can take a look.
56. The fiery and blazing Shadow God map is the Rashomon; what you think it is, it is. The truth is likely that the Fireworks View and the Purple Cloud View are the same thing, deceiving mortals into becoming demons.
57. Five Elements Chariot Plot: The Red Boy uses Samadhi True Fire to create it, possessing the energy of the five elements. The land then says: “The liver belongs to wood, wood can generate fire; the heart belongs to fire, fire can generate earth; the spleen belongs to earth, earth can generate metal; the lungs belong to metal, metal can generate water; the kidneys belong to water, water can generate wood. The five elements generate each other, in an endless cycle. With Samadhi True Fire, you naturally need to use it to refine the energy of the five organs.”
58. The Six Generals of the Red Boy: Urgent as fire, swift as wind are two monsters created by the fallen heads. In the clouds and mist, one is a three-headed ghost, and the other is a blind mountain god. They didn’t know each other until they fought, but they quickly developed a tacit cooperation and became subordinates of the Red Boy. Rising and falling, falling and rising (inheriting from the English high-speed rail ball, you are truly “that piece of iron, pull it a bit and it dies, bump it a bit and it perishes, scrape it a bit and the skin breaks, rub it a bit and the tendons are injured!”). The two are also wandering night demons, and the shadow god map is quite interesting; everyone can take a look.
59. The Flame Commander and the Flame Vanguard are both toys made for the Red Boy by the Land of Fire. The Land of Fire really resembles that kind of shrimp-headed man who, in order to please a single mother, gives toys to the child.
60. The story of the Bishi Water Golden Eye Beast, which is the mount of the Bull Demon King. When the Red Boy rebelled, he couldn’t defeat the Bishi Water Golden Eye Beast, so he pretended to be dead. The Bull Demon King got angry and severely injured the Bishi Water Golden Eye Beast, driving it away. As a result, the Red Boy snatched his weapon back and threw it into the Bishi Cave (that pillar should be the Xuan Iron Rod), poor kid. The Bishi Water Golden Eye Beast’s boss battle has three phases: one is the fire form in the first map, one is the ice form in the second map, and one is the mad dog form in the third map (I directly killed it in the first form) (what an exciting golden lion).
61. The story of Ma Tianba, old Ma, oh old Ma. Brother Ma is loyal and righteous. In order to help the Bull Demon King resolve the troubles of Red Boy, he sought help from various demon kings, but no one came to assist. In the end, Brother Ma sacrificed himself for righteousness, remaining loyal throughout his life.
62. Heavenly Soldier Plot, (Eagle Heavenly Soldier Shadow God Map) (Dog Heavenly Soldier Shadow God Map) (Jackal Heavenly Soldier Shadow God Map) (Heavenly General Shadow God Map) Heavenly Court Eagles and Dogs, Tigers, Leopards, Jackals, and Wolves. The importance of this plot is significant; it explains how a person becomes a Heavenly Soldier, focusing on alchemy in life, committing sins, and taking others’ inner elixirs. “The Judge designated the last soul and said, ‘You practiced alchemy in life, committed sins, and took others’ inner elixirs. Now, I sentence you to the Blood Pool Hell to cleanse your sins before you can reincarnate.’ With a flick of his sleeve, he was about to let the Yin soldiers take him down when a Heavenly General clad in golden armor flashed into the hall, threw the military order onto the table, and said, ‘He has comprehended the profound way; this is the Heavenly Court’s summons. The Marshal’s Mansion has sent me to guide him into the Immortal Register to become a Heavenly Soldier.’ Upon hearing this, the soul was greatly encouraged and hurriedly followed the Heavenly General.”
63. The story of the Monkey King, in “Journey to the West,” is precisely about how the Monkey King was told by the Monkey King how to find Patriarch Bodhi and the Dragon Palace. In order to save the Monkey King, he traveled everywhere, hoping to obtain the Five Aggregates to bring the Monkey King back to life. “Moreover, an immortal appeared in a dream, telling the Monkey King that the Five Aggregates are all empty and can alleviate all suffering. If she can visit the world’s best places and temples, find the essence of the Five Aggregates, and refine the elixir of the Five Aggregates, it may allow that stubborn stone to respond and once again manifest its spiritual powers. Thus, she traveled through the Three Realms and Four Continents in search of materials to refine the elixir of the Five Aggregates, until she encountered a monkey that looked exactly like the Monkey King…”
64. The story of the Six Ding and Six Jia involves them being appointed to help Tang Seng and his group obtain the true scriptures, but later they are implicated and demoted to the mortal realm. In the game, there are four characters representing the Six Ding and Six Jia: Yin Hu (Tiger), Chen Long (Dragon), Shen Hou (Monkey), and Xu Gou (Dog). I hope the upcoming DLC will feature the remaining eight. In Yin Hu’s storyline, it is hinted that Sun Wukong has two sets of armor, one from the mortal realm and one given by the Heavenly Court. “(Yin Hu Shadow God Picture) Yin Hu then picked up the armor on the ground, looked it over, and said, ‘Your golden armor is excellent; why wear this broken copper and rotten iron?’ The Great Sage jumped onto Yin Hu’s large chair and laughed, ‘I simply do not wish to wear it, which is why I left it here for you to repair. You need not truly take action. If anyone comes to inquire, just say it is being modified.’ The Ruyi Painting Scroll was given by Erlang Shen to have them assist the destined one. (Chen Long Shadow God Picture) The old dragon asked, ‘The True Lord sent such treasures; do you know his intention?’ The old dragon simply took back the painting scroll, saying, ‘Since it is a general plan, let it take its natural course. Those guilty shall be punished together, and we shall continue to accompany each other.'”
65. The old monkey is most likely Tang Seng. First, the shadow god picture eliminated three incorrect answers: “Some say he is Guanyin Bodhisattva. Some say he is Bodhi Patriarch. Others say he is Sun Wukong.” Second, the old monkey calls the second brother Bajie. Third, the old monkey’s tone when evaluating Tang Seng in the first ending is extremely serious. Fourth, the shadow god picture mentioned gambling: “The immortals of the Heavenly Court said he was gambling. The Buddha of Lingshan said that if you gamble, you are bound to lose. He said he did not gamble and did not lose.”
66. The Maitreya Buddha storyline explains in the Shadow God painting that it was he who let Erlang Shen enter the painting, and the painting in the pagoda was also done by him. “When the True Monarch came knocking, the painting on the wall wasn’t finished yet.” “I knew the True Monarch would come,” Maitreya said with a smile. “His other painting also raises speculation about the authenticity of Erlang Shen.” Maitreya smiled and said, “Have we met? The Erlang Shen I recognize is much uglier than you.”
67. The remains of the Great Sage, the Shadow God’s illustration explains that what the Great Sage is most dissatisfied with is the immortality of the gods and Buddhas, who devour people without spitting out their bones. “Difficult! Difficult! Difficult!” Wukong waved his hand, looking disdainful: “If they want to eat you, there won’t be a single bone left.” “This offering should be given to those who harvest vegetables in that land. If we eat it, they will eat a little less.” “Immortality doesn’t last long.” The dialogue at the beginning of the prologue with Erlang Shen also reflects this point: “Do you know how many people have sought this immortal Buddha position and failed?” “Immortality…” “The Three Realms and Six Paths, aren’t they all destroyed by these four words?”
68. The story of Yuan Shoucheng and the Four River Dragon Gods. In “Journey to the West,” the Dragon King of the Jing River altered the time of rain to win a bet, which led the Jade Emperor to send Wei Zheng to slay the Jing River Dragon King in a dream. The Four River Dragon Gods, fearing they would be implicated, hid everywhere. The Red Whisker Dragon hid in a treasure cave in the mountains, the Little Li Dragon hid in the Canglong Cave, the Blue Back Dragon hid on Turtle Island, and the Little Yellow Dragon transformed into a dragon pattern on Yuan Shoucheng’s robe, hiding on him. Yet, they could not escape their fate and met their demise. (Little Yellow Dragon Shadow God Map) Sometimes it is passionate and exhilarating: “Life and death are already decided, why not give it a try!” Sometimes it is heartfelt and emotional: “The past is set, and the consequences are hard to change. How many can surpass fate?” Sometimes it questions and laments: “If one could foresee where they would die and chose not to go, could they really escape?”
69. The plot of the Red Boy transforming into Ping Ping. In the original text of “Journey to the West,” when the Red Boy appears, he transforms into a child and then falls from a tree to deceive Tang Seng (Chapter 40 of “Journey to the West”): “At that time, my mother couldn’t bear to part with me, holding me in her arms, crying sorrowfully, trembling, following the bandits, unexpectedly arriving in this mountain, and wanting to kill me. Fortunately, my mother pleaded, preventing me from dying under the knife, but instead hung me from a tree, leaving me to freeze and starve to death. Those bandits took my mother away to an unknown place. I have been hanging here for three days and nights, and not a single person has passed by. I do not know what I have accumulated in my past life to encounter a master in this life. If you are willing to show great compassion and save my life to return home, I would be willing to sell my body and serve you in gratitude, even if the yellow sand covers my face, I would never forget.”
70. Dog: The NPCs in Village 66 are truly remarkable, and the Dog treats us like brothers. What hand-crafted elixirs, what divine-grade elixirs, all given freely, what instant refining of the Five Elements Elixir. How about this, you go ask that Crane Immortal in the sky to move over, you take his spot, the players have appointed you, you can be the Grand Supreme Elder. Let the fourth sister of the DLC refine elixirs for you.
71. Tiger: Bro, Tiger is so cool. Tiger is the first boss in this game that I found stunning; this boss is like Gus from my dreams!!! (Who can make a Gus skin for Tiger?) Just how cool is Tiger? “Six Ding, Six Jia, never eats vegetarian.” In battle, Tiger is the first boss that isn’t affected by immobilization skills; to defeat him, you have to rely on your blade and basic skills. I recommend everyone watch the video by Leo Da Vinci on Bilibili; his no-damage Tiger video is exactly how I play in my dreams (just look at the black monkey in other people’s games, and then look at yourself; can you reflect on that? Can you automatically dodge skills next time?). At the same time, Tiger has a strong sense of martial ethics; every one of his moves has specific voice lines or gestures. After defeating Tiger, the destined one will make a gesture of concession, and Tiger will help you expand an accessory slot, with a maximum of three slots in the first playthrough. You can challenge Tiger once per playthrough, expanding once each time, reaching a maximum of five slots by the third playthrough. It’s worth mentioning that Tiger is the only boss I found whose life-saving hairpin is useless starting from the second playthrough; this means if you equip the life-saving hairpin and die to Tiger, it counts as a challenge failure (Tiger looks down on those who use revival coins). Every time you go to find Tiger, he will also comment on your equipment, including but not limited to: “A whole bunch of rags, no wonder you came here,” “Looks good but useless, silver-plated spearhead,” “Dressed handsomely, but can you keep up with your skills?”
72. Chen Long: The lonely old dragon, farming online. A home system suitable for Chinese babies (Chinese games feel like they’re missing something without farming). After defeating Chen Long in the game, he will ask you to run an errand to find the dog for a pill. Once you give it to him, he will laugh heartily and then throw the pill away (No, can you give it to me if you’re not going to eat it? I’ll eat it). He will then take you to Liu Liu Village (exclusive endorsement by Liu Liu). In the game, you can give the seeds you find to Chen Long and have him help you plant them. If you choose seeds for him and then cancel, Chen Long will be anxious: “What are you taking it back for? Is this to take my life?” After you leave him, he will reluctantly say: “Are you leaving already?” “Remember to come back often” (Wuwuwu). If you give him all the seeds, he will also give you a hidden drink.
73. Monkey: Ancestor Monkey, can you teach me how to use the drunken stick? He will help you upgrade the gourd and the wine; the more you upgrade the wine, the older it gets, and the better the effect: “The older the wine, the better the aroma; the older the person, the more confused they become.” Don’t let drinking interfere with your work: “Wine, wine, wine, it can accomplish things but also ruin them, so be cautious.”
74. The ultimate battle storyline of the Great Sage. From the ending CG of Chapter 5, we can see the figures of the five demon kings and Yang Jian in “Black Myth.” It seems that the six of them united to fight the Great Sage and then divided the Great Sage’s six body parts. (Uncontrollable CG) “Xiong Pi, you have committed a crime and made a contribution, here’s a pair of eyes” (Black Bear Spirit), “Diao Shu, you act on behalf of heaven, take these ears” (Yellow Wind Great Sage), “Huang Mei, you rally the troops, keep this nose” (Huang Mei), “Bai Yan, you endure humiliation and bear the burden, here’s the tongue” (Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord), “Niu Mo, you uphold righteousness and eliminate kin, this is not easy. His body is left to you” (Bull Demon King), Er Lang Shen – intention. The six body parts they received correspond to the chapter CG names in the game. Eyes – see, ears – deaf, nose – fart, tongue – why is it not listening??? (This is questionable), body – uncontrollable, intention – unfinished.
The five demon kings belong to both Buddhism and Taoism. The first three chapters feature demon kings from the Buddhist side: the Black Bear Spirit is a disciple of the Bodhisattva, the Yellow Wind Great Sage is a student of Lingji Bodhisattva, and Huangmei is a young attendant of Maitreya Buddha. The last two chapters’ demon kings are from the Taoist side: Baiyan is associated with the Western Mother, and the Bull Demon and Princess Iron Fan are connected to the Supreme Old Lord. The division of the Great Sage’s six roots likely indicates a joint effort from both Buddhism and Taoism, sharing the spoils. Buddhism gains more. (The Shadow God Map of the Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord) The meaning of the lady is that the other side has taken too much advantage. This time, it’s just right to reclaim both the principal and the interest. The dark lines of Black Myth are likely the open and covert struggles between Buddhism and Taoism.
